An introductory course on wine in English and Italian, aimed at all wine lovers or those considering a career in the industry. The WSET Level 1 qualification should be seen as a first approach to the international world of wine: an opportunity to learn about the main classifications through the sight, smell and taste of the wines offered during the course. The WSET Level 1 certification will enable you to accurately describe a wine and to know all the rules for pairing it with the right dishes.
Teaching Material: Textbook (An Introduction to Wine)
Duration: 1 day, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, with 6 hours of classroom teaching and tasting of 9 wines.
Total Qualification Time (TQT) and Guided Learning Hours (GLH)
TQT is an estimate of the total time required to reach the level of preparation needed to pass the exam. It includes both private study time and Guided Learning Hours (GLH). GLH covers all classroom activities delivered with the tutor present, including exam simulations. The TQT for the Level 1 qualification is 6 hours, consisting entirely of GLH. This estimate also includes the 45 minutes dedicated to the final exam.
Please note that this estimate refers to a native speaker. Additional private study may be advisable depending on each student's level of English.

AT THE END OF THE COURSE YOU WILL BE ABLE TO:
1. Describe the main factors that determine the style and characteristics of wine
2. Identify the various stages of grape ripening and know the most common vineyards and their peculiarities
3. Know the main rules for serving and storing wine, and the influence that temperature, position and light have on the preservation of the bottle
4. Know the main rules for pairing wine with food, and understand the interactions and influences they have on each other
5. Describe a wine using the WSET Level 1 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine (SAT), a rigorous and universal method that will allow you to acquire a common language, usable throughout the world.
Courses will run only when a minimum of 10 students has been reached.
The WSET Level 1 certificate is awarded upon passing a written test consisting of 30 multiple-choice questions with a duration of 45 minutes.
Results are graded as follows:
Score of 70% or higher: Pass
Score of 69% or lower: Fail
If the exam is not passed, it is possible to retake it upon payment of the relevant fee.
Retaking the exam
-Candidates may request to retake the exam in case of failure. There is no limit to the number of attempts that can be made, until the study material is updated.
-Candidates who have already passed the exam cannot retake it to improve their score.
